Dear Ingrid and family,
We were very saddened to hear of Peter’s passing and we send our deepest condolences to you all.
I met Peter back in August 2008 when I first moved to Heidelberg with my family and started working at the school, he very quickly become my first friend here in Germany and someone I felt that I had known for my whole life. Soon after he met my met my then young kids (now teenagers) and then my husband and a solid relationship was formed and then we finally then met you, Ingrid forging a great friendship for life.
In his time at the school, I thoroughly enjoyed working with him and found him to be a wonderful role model, learning so much from him from his past experiences and listening to all his amazing and remarkable stories. He gave me a lot of support in my first few years here which I will never forget, and he was always dealt with everything in a kind, courteous, fair and professional manner. He was a real gentlemen.
Even after he retired, we continued to keep in touch and enjoyed the yearly Christmas letter with the all the updates. After the accident, we would try and see him every couple of months, initially in Schlierbach and then at home in Karlsruhe and then finally in Freundenstadt. He enjoyed hearing about the changes at the school as well as all the new inventions that my husband was working on and how our kids were doing. He was always so cheerful and happy, and we also enjoyed filling him on how our lives were changing, and at the same time hearing the changes and joys in his life including jobs, marriages and grandchildren.
Each time we visited we saw improvement, (despite him not believing this), and he fought on until the next time. He truly was an inspiration through his strength, determination and positivity for life.
To my first English friend in Germany, you will be missed and never forgotten.
